0.1 Run: 528 Feet of Fun

Info: On September 7, 2019, an event you have never seen the likes of will take place at Dunedin House of Beer!  People of all shapes, sizes, and athletic abilities will come together to run, walk, meander, skip, and stroll the 0.1 mile course at the Dunedin HOB Brewery to help raise money for Jump for Kids, a 501(c)(3) that provides mentoring and personal training for Tampa Bay youth.

Participants will receive a commemorative tee, racing bib, and tasting glass before the race.  To stay “motivated” along the 528-foot path to the Finish Line, runners will get to enjoy finger food and beer stops. As everyone finishes (at their leisure), they will receive a medal and continue to have full access to the event.

Colin Mochrie Presents Hyprov at the Mahaffey Theater

Info: From the minds of improv and comedy legend Colin Mochrie and Master Hypnotist Asad Mecci comes a brand new, mind-blowing, jaw-dropping, side-splitting show. Hypnosis and Improv come together as two masters of their crafts unite for a totally unique comedy experience, HYPROV: Improv Under Hypnosis.

How it Works: Twenty random volunteers from the audience will be put under hypnosis by Master Hypnotist Asad Mecci (the process of which is a show in its own right), their inhibitions evaporated and their minds no longer their own. The contestants are methodically and hysterically whittled down until the five best are left on stage when one of the world’s leading improvisers enters! Co-Creator Colin Mochrie takes the stage to improvise with the top five while they are still under hypnosis, turning the show into an improv extravaganza!

Opening Reception for “Beaches, Benches and Boycotts: The Civil Rights Movement in Tampa Bay”

Info: The Florida Holocaust Museum is pleased to present an original exhibition Beaches, Benches and Boycotts: The Civil Rights Movement in Tampa Bay. The exhibition opening reception will take place at the Museum on Saturday, September 7th at 7:00 p.m. and is free to the public, with reservation. The program will include a panel discussion about the history of Tampa Bay’s African American communities in Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota. The discussion will be moderated by Judge Charles Williams and panelists will include Fred Hearns, formerly of Tampa, Gwendolyn Reese of St. Petersburg, and Victoria Oldham of Sarasota.

Info: Come on out to St. Pete Beach’s ‘Pink Palace,’ the Don CeSar to enjoy a fiery sunset, delectable food and meet new people – all while supporting a great cause! SOF Missions’ goal is to end veteran suicide and build resilient warriors throughout their 4-phase holistic program, The Resiliency Project. The fundraising event is happening Saturday, September 7 from 6:30 – 9 p.m. and tickets are $100 per person. The evening includes success stories from warriors in their program, a guest speaker, and multiple raffle opportunities.

That ART Festival at Jannus Live

Info: That ART Festival is an all ages, family and pet-friendly event that will paint Jannus Live vibrant on Saturday, September 7 from 12 – 6 p.m. This free event is open to the public and will have a DJ supplying the tunes in the courtyard, ticket raffles, a live interactive piece for the artists and patrons to collab on, as well as a children’s creative corner with a free face painter. And of course a ton of art!

Busch Gardens Bier Fest

This festival blends the local Tampa bay craft scene with time-honored traditions to create a unique food and beer celebration. Above the Fold: New Expressions in Origami

Info:The “Above the Fold” exhibition demonstrates the extraordinary power and potential of contemporary origami. Paper is transformed into breathtaking sculpture, large-scale installations and conceptual works that express contemporary social, political, and aesthetic ideas. Visionary master folders-such as Erik Demaine and Martin Demaine (Canada/USA), Vincent Floderer (France), Miri Golan (Israel), Paul Jackson (UK/Israel), Dr. Robert J. Lang (USA), Sipho Mabona (Switzerland/South Africa), Yuko Nishimura (Japan), and Richard Sweeney (UK)-push the boundaries of paper as a medium for creating bold and sophisticated works. The exhibition celebrates these artists who are redefining a traditional Japanese craft as a modern global genre and inventing unexpected forms of artistic expression.

Regular admission is $20 for adults; $15 for those 65 and older, Florida educators, college students, and active duty military; and $10 for students 7 and older. Children under 7 and Museum members are admitted free. Groups of 10 or more adults pay only $14 per person and children $4 each with prior reservations. Also, admission is only $10 after 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Safety Harbor’s 3rd Friday Music Series
